Designing Women sequel headed to ABC

Designing Women is coming back to television. Twenty-five years after its original seven-season run, the series is poised to return with a sequel on ABC, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network has given original series creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and executive producer Harry Thomason (who is also Bloodworth-Thomason’s husband) a script commitment for a show that will follow the next generation of Sugarbakers and a group of young female designers at an Atlanta interior design firm. The project has reportedly been in the works for months at ABC and will be produced by the same studio at Sony Pictures Television as the original. “I’m very excited to be working with ABC,” Bloodworth-Thomason told THR. “And Sony has always been a great partner for Designing Women. Normally, I’m not a fan of reboots but Designing Women does seem to have the right feng shui for all that is going on right now. We could definitely have some fun.” The original Designing Women, whi...

‘Modern Family’ Renewed For 11th & Final Season By ABC

#ModernFamily #FinalSeason #ABC It’s official — ABC’s flagship comedy series Modern Family will wrap its run after one more season. The Emmy-winning family comedy has been picked up for an eleventh and final season, the network announced at TCA. I hear it will consist of at least 18 episodes and could expand to 22 episodes. Modern Family’s renewal was all but assured when the original adult cast, stars Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara, in December agreed on new deals with producing studio 20th Century Fox TV to return. Since then, the studio also has signed co-creators/executive producers Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd for another season, and also has made new deals with the original kid actors — now all young adults — Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez. I hear some of those cast negotiations came down to the wire, with pacts finally closing overnight. “Chris and Steve have created one of t...

Ready or not, the holiday season is upon us, and #ABC has unveiled its plans for holiday programming. ABC is pulling out all the stops this year in the month leading up to #Christmas The Disney-owned network has a wealth of shows, specials and movies to draw on, and it is all under the banner of its 25 Days of Christmas event. Strictly speaking, ABC's holiday programming goes well beyond the first 25 days of December. The event kicks off on the day after Thanksgiving, adding an extra week to the festivities. Even after Christmas, the network will keep things going for a few days, as many people will be home for until New Years. The holiday season is a complicated time for many people, with mixed emotions and mounting responsibilities. Still, we can all rely on certain classic shows and movies to re-establish our priorities and remind us of why all of the last-minute shopping and exorbitant spending is worth it. For that, ABC makes a strong case , with some of the most beloved ...

Roseanne Barr Says She's Received a Really Good Offer to Go Back on TV

Roseanne Barr -Getty Images You haven't seen the last of Roseanne Barr. Barr, whose iconic sitcom Roseanne returned for one season on ABC before being canceled following the comic's racist tweet aimed at former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, told Rabbi Shmuley Boteach that she's been offered quite a few new gigs since Roseanne was canceled. "I've already been offered so many things and I almost already accepted one really good offer to go back on TV and I might do it. But we'll see," she said on the podcast. ABC ordered a spinoff of Roseanne currently titled The Conners. The series will follow the TV family Barr helped create—Laurie Metcalf, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman are all returning, reprising their Roseanne roles—but Barr will have no financial or creative ties to the series. That was part of the deal to save the jobs of the cast and crew on the series. by   CHRIS HARNICK   |  Mon., Jul. 2, 2018

'The Conners' teaser promo: What does 'Roseanne' look like without Roseanne Barr?

The first promo for  The Conners  shows that life will go on without  Roseanne . ABC’s new  Roseanne  spinoff reunites the whole family, with the notable exception of  Roseanne Barr  (who played the title character in the classic ’90s  Roseanne  sitcom and in last year’s nine-episode revival). With their matriarch gone — reportedly  dead from an opioid overdose , though ABC has not confirmed this — her sister Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) appears to be stepping in as head of the family. How Roseanne’s husband, Dan (John Goodman), feels about this isn’t revealed in the promo, but longtime fans might have a guess. In the preview video, Jackie and Roseanne’s younger daughter, Darlene (Sara Gilbert), discuss budgeting for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. “ I say we follow the Conner tradition: Spend every dime we have on Halloween, and then we have nothing to be thankful for or buy gifts with,”  Darlene suggests. Alex Trebek retiring From Jeopardy!

The longtime host of  Jeopardy!  suggested that he may retire when his contract ends in 2020. NOEL KING, HOST: OK, Rachel, it's time now for a little bit of trivia. RACHEL MARTIN, HOST: All right. Hit me up. KING: This game show host said he's thinking of retiring once his contract is up in 2020. MARTIN: Ding. Who is Alex Trebek? KING: That is right. On Sunday, Trebek talked to TMZ's Harvey Levin in an interview on Fox News' "Objectified," and he was asked, what are the chances you'll stay at "Jeopardy!" after 2020? And here's what he said. (SOUNDBITE OF TV SHOW, "OBJECTIFIED") ALEX TREBEK: Fifty-50 and a little less. MARTIN: All right. So don't go panicking, everyone. 2020 is still a little way's away, which gives the world enough time to adjust to the thought of a "Jeopardy!" without Alex Trebek. He's been hosting this game show since 1966. Not this game show, but, shows in general. And...
