Bloomberg unveils plans for Americans' Social Security, retirement savings

#MikeBloonberg #SocialSecurity #Health #Housing #Retirement Mike Bloomberg released plans to shore up Americans' retirement on Sunday, promising to increase Social Security retirement benefits and create a government-backed savings plan for workers at all income levels. "Americans who have worked for decades deserve the opportunity to retire without facing constant financial pressure, and, as president, I will strengthen Social Security to allow seniors to do just that," Bloomberg, who is a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, said in a statement. The announcement marks the first time Bloomberg has indicated the direction in which he plans to go with regard to Social Security. Repairing the program's solvency and expanding benefits has become a key part of several presidential candidates' plans, including Sens. Yale grad gets help from fellow alum after living on streets of LA for years

#Yale #ShawnPleasants #KimHershman #Koreatown #Housing #Homeless LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- After several years of living on the streets of Los Angeles, an Ivy League graduate's life is back on track thanks to a woman who he describes as an "angel." California's homeless crisis has touched people from all different backgrounds, but Shawn Pleasants' case is quite unique. "It's not someone else's problem. Kim Hershman, could not sit still after hearing about Pleasants' story in September, especially after learning his encampment was mere miles away from her home. The Hollywood attorney, also a Yale graduate, began to formul...

Migrant children are suffering at the border. But reporters are kept away from the story.

#MigrantChildren #Border #Housing #Journalists #Advocates Overcrowded facilities. Sick, filthy and hungry children sleeping on concrete floors. Young children taking care of infants and toddlers in the enforced absence of their parents. News stories emerged last week about squalid conditions at a Border Patrol detention facility housing about 300 migrant children on the U.S.-Mexico border. The media accounts described the facility in Clint, Tex., near El Paso, that houses children separated from their parents by order of the Trump administration. Apart from their appalling specifics, the stories were notable for one element: They were all based on secondhand accounts. Reporters were unable to see the facilities themselves or speak to any of the children. Instead, they relied on descriptions provided by lawyers and advocates who were granted access under a legal settlement with the Border Patrol. The blackout on press access has left Americans largely in the dark about condit...
