KU lands 1st five-star recruit Bryce Thompson

#Kansas #KU #Jayhawks #NCAA  Five-star guard Bryce Thompson announced his commitment to Kansas on Tuesday morning, giving the Kansas Jayhawks their first five-star recruit since the 2018 class. Thompson chose Kansas over a final four that included in-state programs Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, along with North Carolina. At different times in the last few months, there were different frontrunners in his recruitment. The Jayhawks were always a contender, and Bill Self has known the Thompson family since coaching Bryce's father, Rod, at Tulsa -- but the NCAA hitting them with a Notice of Allegations earlier this fall raised some questions. Oklahoma had been involved, and Thompson took two official visits to Norman. The strongest push down the stretch came from Oklahoma State, which was hoping the commitment from No. 2 senior Cade Cunningham last week would put the Cowboys over the top. Auburn and Kansas will begin Saturday at approximately 8:40 p.m. CT on TBS, it was announced Thursday night. Gonzaga pulled off what some considered impossible, stopping the Duke juggernaut in the Maui Invitational title game without one of its best players. Now the Zags are No. 1 again.
