Conversion therapy has never been a cure for homosexuality

#LGBTQ #LoveIsLove #LALGBTCenter Conversion therapy has never been a cure for homosexuality because there is nothing to cure. This “therapy” only hurts it’s victims. There is no scientific evidence proving sexuality can be changed. Public Outcry Saves Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Vital STD and HIV Services With Temporary Funding Agreement

#LALGBTCenter #DrBarbaraFerrer #HIV #STD #Funding #LADepartmentofPublicHealth Community speaks, County responds…for now LOS ANGELES, January 28, 2020 —Today, the Los Angeles LGBT Center announces that it has reached a temporary agreement with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (DPH) to reinstate funding for vital STD and HIV services for the LGBT community. The agreement, reached overnight, comes one day after the announcement that free STD and HIV testing and STD treatment funded by the County would end at the Center due to funding cuts by DPH. The subsequent public outcry and activism through phone calls to DPH and its director, Dr. Barbara Ferrer, led to the temporary funding agreement. “The Los Angeles LGBT community saved the day. From phone calls to tweets and emails, their voices were heard and ultimately saved these vital services for our community,” said Los Angeles LGBT Center CEO Lorri L. Jean. “It’s a potent reminder of the strength, tenacity, and r

D. Fuller asked, halfway through the graduate-level psychology class she teaches on Tuesday nights at Antioch University. Ms. Fuller’s students needed no further prompting. They began shedding layers, revealing what they’d been wearing underneath: T-shirts on which they had scrawled names, labels, and insults in Magic Marker ink. Around the room, the collection was various: “Sissy,” “AIDS,” “pedophile,” “pervert,” “fag,” “str8t-acting,” “socialite,” “fat,” “bland,” “emotionally white,” “immigrant,” “stupid American.” Welcome to L.G.B.T. The Day My Dad Kicked Me Out For Being Gay Changed My Life Forever

COURTESY OF REX OGLE   Rex Ogle in 1998. #Disowned #Family #Gay #LGBTQ #Rejection #Religion #LALGBTCenter By Rex Ogle Guest Writer We were on the back porch, smoke rolling up from the nearby barbeque grill, the smell of chicken roasting in the air. My father was more silent than usual.  He took a hard swig from his beer bottle. I asked, “You okay?” Out of nowhere, my father says, “If you choose to be gay, then you’re no longer part of this family. You want to live that lifestyle? Then do it somewhere else.” His gaze drifted toward the woods. He didn’t want to look at me. The thought of me, of what I was, sickened him. Shame overwhelmed me. Sweat soaked through my shirt as I held back the bile in my throat. I asked how he knew. My stepsister had outed me.  Stuttering, I tried to explain it wasn’t a choice. But at 18 years old (and caught completely off-guard), I had no defense. Not that it would have mattered. My father, as wi

Jean. “We demand the Board of Supervisors take immediate action to restore care to those who need it most.” After the Bo

With Fentanyl on the Streets, California Opioid Users Should Test Their Drugs

#Fentanyl #LALGBTCenter #SyntheticOpioid #Addiction  A wide variety of street drugs can be laced with fentanyl. While it is advisable to test street drugs for fentanyl, there are no well-researched, established recommendations on how to test drugs with the test strips we provide. People who use fentanyl test strips provided by the Los Angeles LGBT Center accept all responsibility for any injury or death that could occur after taking drugs, whether they have been tested, or not tested, for fentanyl. For more information call (323) 993-7448, #LALGBTCenter Michael Marquesen first noticed about a year ago that fentanyl, a dangerous synthetic opioid, had hit the streets of Los Angeles. People suddenly started overdosing after they shot up a new white powder that dealers promised would give them a powerful high. “In Hollywood, they’re like ‘Everybody’s dropping … everybody’s overdosing!’” said Marquesen, director of the Los Angeles Community Health Project, which pro

Thermostats, Locks and Lights: Digital Tools of Domestic Abuse

#DomesticViolence #Harassment #IPV #LALGBTCenter #StopViolenceProgram #Revenge #DVShelter #Smarthome #Survivor #Technology #VictimofCrime By Nellie Bowles June 23, 2018 SAN FRANCISCO — The people who called into the help hotlines and domestic violence shelters said they felt as if they were going crazy. One woman had turned on her air-conditioner but said it then switched off without her touching it. Another said the code numbers of the digital lock at her front door changed every day and she could not figure out why. Still, another told an abuse helpline that she kept hearing the doorbell ring, but no one was there. Their stories are part of a new pattern of behavior in domestic abuse cases tied to the rise of smart home technology. Internet-connected locks, speakers, thermostats, lights and cameras that have been marketed as the newest conveniences are now also being used as a means for harassment, monitoring, revenge and control. In more than 30 interviews with The Ne
