Law & Order: SVU is now officially TV’s longest-running primetime live-action series

#Law&OrderSVU #LiveActionSeries  #DickWolf  #NBC Celebrating a very special milestone—one that could really only have been achieved with the help of a whole lot of very special victims—NBC’s Law & Order: SVU has now officially become the longest-running primetime live-action series in U.S. TV history.  In doing so, the Dick Wolf-produced procedural has now surpassed Gunsmoke, a venerable TV Western from the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s (Jesus) that now exists solely as a longevity milestone for other long-running TV series to blithely blow past. Per Deadline, NBC renewed the show for a new season today, confirming that Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson will continue to try to protect New York’s various dead and abused children for a record-setting 21-season reign of fake search engines, weird Ice-T reaction shots, and general John Mulaney-inspiring cop show pleasures. (That also, incidentally, means it just blew past the record set by the original Law & Order, which went off

Billboard's decision to disqualify Lil Nas X's 'Old Town Road' from country charts is misguided

#LilNasXs #OldTownRoad  #CountryMusic #BillboardHot100 Do Billboard's country music charts have a race problem? That's what some people are alleging after the Billboard charts disqualified  Lil Nas X's song "Old Town Road" from the country charts for "not embracing enough elements of today’s country music." And in 2019, when the industry is supposed to be rewarding forward-thinking artists pushing their genres forward, the charts body's choice to police an arbitrary definition of country music at the expense of the rising artist is woefully misguided. The song, which rose to No. 32 on this week's Billboard Hot 100, is twangier than anything you’ll hear on rap radio, mixing banjos and trap beats as Lil Nas X raps about horses and cowboys before name-dropping Gucci and Porsches. Considering how Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s country-EDM hybrid “Meant to Be” ruled the country charts last year, “Old Town Road” seemed like another pote

'Overwhelmed' Beyoncé and Jay-Z preach LGBTQ acceptance in GLAAD Awards speech

#Beyoncé #JAY-Z #GLAADMediaAwards #GLAAD #LGBTQ  Taking a significant stand for acceptance and support of LGBTQIA people of color, pop icons Beyonce and Jay-Z accepted GLAAD Media's vanguard award on Thursday night in Los Angeles. Each a cultural monolith in his/her own right, the husband-and-wife team dubbed "the most powerful black people in the country" by presenter Lena Waithe used the platform to rally Americans to protect their friends, family, and children, and love them "in their truest form," said Beyonce. Emotions ran high in the international ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, as Waithe and fellow presenters helped contextualize the value of Mr. and Mrs. Carter's endorsement of queer identities. Trans writer and director Janet Mock spoke of the significance of her casting in Jay-Z's music video for "Family Feud," in which director Ava DuVernay envisioned her as an architect of a new America, far in the future, where a w

‘Fyre Festival 2:’ Ultra Music Festival Strands 80,000 on Miami Island

Compounding the problems was a tree that caught fire, leading city officials to declare no fire works for the remaining two days of the festival. It didn’t take long, but the fiasco surrounding night one of the Ultra Music Festival has already been  branded  “ Fyre Festival  2,” fueled in part by forecasts of a so-called “traffic apocalypse” that ultimately proved to be true. The massive electronic music event held near Miami ended in pandemonium when a fire broke out, stranding tens of thousands of attendees on an island without transportation. Some had to walk over an hour to the mainland in the dead of night. And there are still two more nights to go.
