In a recent survey by CBS Sports, over 100 coaches were asked who they believed was the best team in the country. Kansas Basketball led the way.
Kansas Basketball and winning go together like bread and butter. In 2018, the Jayhawks are yet again expected to win a ton of games.
In a survey put on by CBS Sports, more than a hundred coaches were asked who they thought was the best team to take the court this season. The Kansas Jayhawks were undoubtedly the favorite.
One glance at the roster should convince you as well. There is not a more talented team in the nation. Probably the best group of transfers in history are waiting to take the college world by storm. Dedrick Lawson, his brother KJ, and Charlie Moore all averaged more than 12 points a game before they moved to Lawrence, Kansas.
The No.5 freshmen class looks loaded as well. Quentin Grimes looks like he’s NBA ready. Devon Dotson has a chance to have a historical run at Kansas, and David McCormack adds depth to a loaded group of big men.
Udoka Azubuike and Silvio De Sousa return from last year’s team, as do Lagerald Vick and Marcus Garrett. Vick and Azubuike were starters during last season’s long tournament run.
What might be the most talented team Bill Self has had to this point, his coaching in itself is enough to get people excited about this team.
Kansas Basketball received 38% of the first place votes. That number isn’t necessarily impressive by itself, but when you stack it next to the other teams that received votes, it is clear who the favorite is.
Kentucky came in second, with 18% of the votes. The Wildcats bring in another wave of freshmen and are actually deeper as far as experience goes than in years past.
Duke received 15% of the votes as they head into the 2018-19 season. The BlueDevils had the No.1 recruiting class this offseason so it will be interesting to see how these young kids feel together.
Basically, the coaches just acknowledged what we as college basketball fans already know. The Jayhawks have the perfect mix of talent, experience, and depth.
This might be the most talented team Self has ever had. Time will tell how far they can take the Jayhawks, but it’s going to be a fun, fun ride.
