I have a considerable background working with the African American community and other communities of color & the LGBTQ and non-binary communities. I work with Adults, Teens, Individuals, and Couples from all cultural backgrounds. Together we can address issues important to you, such as anxiety, depression, cultural identities, and trauma. I recognize the role that race, culture, and identity play in our lives and how oppression, prejudice, and racism(& other isms), can hinder our wellness.
My Background and Approach
Over the past five years, I have worked with teens, communities of color, and the LGBT population. I have experience working with, school stress, workplace stress, first-generation immigrants, the dynamics of aging, racism, homophobia, transphobia, conflict, and life transitions. My therapeutic approach is Relational; Supportive; Empathetic; Conversational, and Collaborative. I will challenge you to be an active partner in therapy and to work toward ongoing insight, growth, and positive change. Through our collaboration, we may utilize multiple theoretical approaches such as Cognitive Therapy, Solution-Focused, Trauma-Focused, Psychodynamic, LGBTQ Affirmative, and Attachment-based therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Often, one may seek psychotherapy when struggling or dealing with some personal or mental health issues. A common misconception about psychotherapy is that you must have a mental health issue when engaging in treatment. Psychotherapy has immense value to anyone who wants to understand themselves better or examine the dynamics of their interpersonal relationships. It’s an exploratory process that seeks to provide insight, an invaluable tool to have at your disposal. Therapy can provide a safe, supportive place for people to talk about grief, adjustment to physical illness, the end of a relationship or job, abuse issues, or any change in life circumstances that cause distress. Therapists help clients learn coping skills to get them through these times.
