Katy Perry, John Legend & Hollywood blasts Trump over 'demented' tweet about California wildfires

Numerous celebrities slammed President Trump on social media after he blamed the fast-growing wildfires in California on mismanagement by state officials and threatened to withdraw federal funding.

"There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor," Trump said on Twitter early Saturday morning.

"Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!” he continued.

Shortly after his remarks, Katy Perry, Sarah Silverman, Ava DuVernay and other Hollywood stars took to Twitter to rail against the president.

“This is an absolutely heartless response,” Perry said on Twitter. “There aren’t even politics involved. Just good American families losing their homes as you tweet, evacuating into shelters.”

Several other celebrities who are also longtime critics of the president, including Bette Midler and Kathy Griffin, also took joined others in calling out the president for his tweet.

If only we had a LEADER capable of grasping what the events in California mean and guiding us to solve them! Mass shooting, the wildfires that have consumed 100,000 acres...the Pumpkin has flown away from his defeat at the polls to eat fois gras and throw wreaths at the dead.

Trump’s comments about the massive wildfires in the state came shortly after he declared a state of emergency for California, which allows federal assistance to supplement local response as blazes continue to scorch the state.

State officials have said at least nine people have died in a deadly Northern California blaze, which has been dubbed the Camp Fire.

Trump later took to Twitter on Saturday evening to offer his support for “those fighting the fires” in California, in addition to the families who evacuated their homes this week due to the blaze and those who lost loved ones in the fires.

“More than 4,000 are fighting the Camp and Woolsey Fires in California that have burned over 170,000 acres, Trump tweeted. “Our hearts are with those fighting the fires, the 52,000 who have evacuated, and the families of the 11 who have died. The destruction is catastrophic. God Bless them all.”
